You are invited to join us as we celebrate the 106th anniversary of Latvian Independence on Saturday, November 16th, 2024 at Laurier Community Hall, 14405 85 Avenue, NW, Edmonton. Doors will open at 5:15 pm with a program to start at 6:00 pm. Our celebration this year will be offering something different. Rather than a dinner, we will be hosting a reception with light refreshments and cash bar. Entertainment and some activities are planned. If you are planning to attend, please advise us by email before Wednesday November 13th, as this will give us a better indication of how many people will be joining us. We look forward to seeing you on November 16^th!

We regret to inform you that due to unexpected circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Ligo 2024 which was scheduled for June 22nd. This decision was not made lightly, but unfortunately, we have faced challenges in securing enough volunteers and a sufficient level of interest to ensure the event’s success.

We understand that many of you were looking forward to Ligo, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause. Please know that this decision was made with careful consideration of all factors involved, and our primary concern is to deliver a high-quality experience that meets your expectations.

Sanāksim kopā Jāņos, Sestdien 22 Jūnijā! Lets get together for Jāņi, Saturday June 22!

Kur/Where: Laurier Heights Community Hall and park with outdoor patio, 14405 85 Avenue, NW, Edmonton,  Laiks/Time: 2PM-10PM  Ieeja/Admission: Brīva/Free

Imanta will be serving up hamburgers and sausage with potato salad, available for purchase from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. There will be a cash bar (beer and other canned beverages).  Activities planned for adults and children – flower wreaths, Jāņu cheese, pirags contest (bring your best!) and raffle items.  Alcohol consumption is only allowed indoors and the patio area. No alcohol in the park.  Potluck-style desserts would be appreciated!

You are invited to join us as we celebrate the 105th anniversary of Latvian Independence on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Laurier Community Hall, 14405 85 Avenue, NW, Edmonton. Doors will open at 5:15 pm with the program to start at 6:00 pm with dinner to follow. We are excited to announce that we will be offering a dinner in the Latvian style with some traditional dishes! There will also be a cash bar and raffle. To help us make this more fun, if you are able to, we would like to ask you to bring a handmade item or a purchased item to donate to our raffle table.

A small group from Edmonton’s Pro Coro Choir will help to start the festivities. Pro Coro Canada was founded in 1981 and is one of only a few professional choirs in Canada. Under the direction of Michael Zaugg, the choir is widely recognized as one of this country’s finest. Imanta is proud to support Pro Coro and Grammy nominated composer Ugis Praulins.

We are also excited to announce a special screening of Imanta’s Latvian School Animation Film for Latvia’s 105^th Anniversary, “Daudz Laimes Latvija”. This film was created by the teachers Zane Vandelina and Inga Goba and the children who attend Imanta Latvian School together with animation film director/producer Genadijs Dolganovs in support of Imanta and the  Latvian Language Agency & Ministry of Education and Science.

Latvian Freedom Fighters’ Remembrance Day – Lāčplēsis Day is Saturday, November 11, 2023.
To commemorate this day we are meeting on Friday, November 10th at the Latvian Linden Tree at Monsignor William Irwin Park, 9814 110 St. at 6:00 p.m.  After a short remembrance ceremony we will gather at ‘Asymmetrical Brewing’ around 7PM – Address: 11821 105 Ave NW, Edmonton. Please join us either at the Tree or Brewery! Everyone is welcome!

Once again Imanta is hosting a casino event. Volunteers make it work! Our involvement in AGLC casinos helps us to keep running our scholarship and senior’s programs.  Without the funding that AGLC distributes to us, we would not be able to keep these programs going. Please consider signing up for a shift. We will even provide you with a meal! The casino event will run from June 6th to 7th, 2023 at Yellowhead Casino, 12464 – 153 Street, Edmonton.
