Latvian Consular Services in Edmonton 2019

A Consular Agent from the Latvian Embassy in Ottawa will be in Edmonton on Thursday, March 14th for passport & citizenship services.

Anyone interested in applying for LV citizenship, or applying for and/or renewing their LV passport, must register in advance with the Latvian Embassy in Ottawa at  consulate.canada@mfa.gov.lv

Appointments for other consular services on this day should also be made in advance with the Latvian Embassy.  Coffee, tea and snacks will be available.

Address: Canadian Lithuanian Society of Edmonton, 11629 – 83 Street NW. This is located west of Edmonton Northlands and south of 118 Ave, on the north side of the river.

Edmonton is lighting up the bridge!

The High Level bridge will be lit up in the colors of the Latvian flag on November 18th, from 4:20 pm to midnight, in celebration of Latvia’s centenary. This photo above is an illustration only.  We have been assured the lights will be horizontally striped using the appropriate color of red. Mark this on your calendars and come out to see for yourselves!

Plans are afoot. We are organizing a meet up of whoever wants to join in.  We will meet at the western end of the parking lot of the Terrace Building on the Legislature grounds at 6:00 pm on Sunday, November 18th to get a good view of the lights. From there we could meet up at Beer Revolution in Oliver Square, 11736 – 104 Ave. Better parking options, something for everyone on the menu.  Stop in for a visit and a drink! November 17th – Imanta’s Latvia 100 celebration – Wear your mittens!

Beloved Latvian author and poet Imants Ziedonis wrote: “Latvians go out in to the world wearing patterned mittens and throw them into the treasure chest of cultures along with Persian rugs, Indian and Japanese silks, Chinese porcelain, and Russian woodcuts…”

Don’t forget to take your mittens with you to Imanta’s Latvia 100 celebration on November 17th!!

You can vote in Edmonton for Latvia’s Parliment!

Elections for Latvia’s Saiema, or Parliament, will take place in Edmonton on Saturday, October 6th, 2018.  Everyone with a current Latvian passport can and should vote.
The polling station is at 9308 – 82 Street NW and will be open from 7am – 8pm.
Pre-election information, including information on the candidates, will be available at the polling station from October 1-5 at the times shown on the attached flyer.

Newsletter September 2018

Reminder to everyone the deadline for applications to our Scholarship Program is October 1st.

Elections for the Saiema, or Latvian Parliament, will take place on October 6, the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. This year, for the first time, a polling station will be available in Edmonton. Information about the Latvian elections has been circulating on all social and news media for many weeks. Anyone with a valid Latvian passport is allowed to vote and probably should vote.  More details about where to vote will be sent out shortly.
