IMANTA will hold a Līgo celebration on from 2 – 11pm on Saturday, June 24th, at Devon Lions’ Campground at 1140 Saskatchewan Ave. East in Devon, west of Edmonton (www.devonlionscampground.activenuketoo.com). The OTS location we enjoyed last year was not available to us this year. We have reserved The Shelter, a facility which has a large covered area, cooking facilities, washrooms, playground, fire-pit and greenspace.  Please see our previous posting for more information.

IMANTA IS 70 YEARS OLD! Our society was founded on March 8, 1947, and is still the oldest active Latvian society in Canada. Viola Baker, one of the original founders, recently celebrated her 95th birthday. Both milestones are remarkable achievements. We will recognize this anniversary at our March 26th event below.

In preparation for Latvia’s centenary celebrations next year, a special Latvian flag is travelling to Latvians around the world. It’s making its way to Alberta via the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario and Saskatchewan, and then to to Vancouver, Kelowna, across to Europe, USA and South America, returning to Latvia next year. This project is a youth initiative created in 2015 in anticipation of Latvia’s 100 birthday in 2018.

NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2016 – EDMONTON LATVIAN SOCIETY IMANTA

The Edmonton Latvian Society IMANTA will be celebrating the 98th anniversary of           Latvian independence on Saturday,  November 19th,  2016 at St. John’s Cultural Centre,       10611 – 110 Ave NW in Edmonton.

The men’s choir “Sing for Life ‘will perform. We  will  have the same delicious food and same great dance music as last year!

works by two members of our Latvian community

-information about art prizes offered by the Canadian Latvian Artists’
Society LATVIS. Deadline for application is November 30th.

The Edmonton Latvian Society IMANTA will be celebrating Latvian
Independence day on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 at the same great location

Scholarship Information 2016

IMANTA is once again pleased to announce our self-administered scholarship program for 2016/2017, funded by our ongoing casino program and governed by the regulations of the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission. The total funding available is $25,000.

Scholarship Eligibility

The scholarship is open to:

  1. Alberta residents who are Canadian citizens, landed immigrants, or foreign students on visa
  2. Applicants who are registered as full or part-time students as defined by the accredited or licensed educational institution.
