Reaching out for Immigration Stories for Canada’s 150

“I am editing on behalf of various Edmonton organizations, an upcoming E-book with the planned title: “150 Stories of Reconciliation – Connecting Us All”. The book, meant to commemorate Canada 150, will consist of short non-fictional stories (750 words max) from community writers across as many as possible of the immigrant communities in Edmonton, old and new, of all races and from all cultures and continents.
I’m reaching out to see if you could spread word of our project to all potentially interested among people of Latvian heritage in Edmonton that you represent, in the chance of possible contribution of one or two stories for the E-book from that community. Alternately, kindly provide me with email or Facebook addresses of persons potentially interested in contributing a story, that I can follow up with.
The deadline of submission is September 30. We launch the book on November 30. Those interested in contributing a community story or personal one, can reach me at (780) 990-6877, or through connectingusallstories@gmail.com for a detailed information package.
Thank you in advance for your kind support.”
Best wishes,

Tololwa M Mollel
Editor, “Stories of Reconciliation – Connecting Us All” E-book.

Latvia 100 Flag Event Edmonton & Calgary

latvian flag event

In preparation for Latvia’s centenary celebrations next year, a special Latvian flag is travelling to Latvians around the world. It’s making its way to Alberta via the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario and Saskatchewan, and will continue on to Vancouver, Kelowna and possibly Victoria. This project is a youth initiative created in 2015 in anticipation of Latvia’s 100 birthday in 2018.

The flag will be in Edmonton on Sunday, March 26th. There will be a short official ceremony and everyone will be invited to sign the accompanying book of messages, to write a wish for Latvia as a symbolic gift for future generations. Children’s group activities, a social afternoon and our annual meeting are also planned.

Details: Laurier Heights Community Hall at 14405 – 85 Ave NW Edmonton,  program starts at 1pm. Refreshments will be served.
